What can I expect on the first visit?The first visit will involve gathering information, discovery of information and details, and understanding the biomechanics of the injury. If time permits, he will begin the process of working with you. Eventually, there will be a deeper probe into your WHY?

What is your WHY?Your “WHY” is the ultimate motivation for everything you do. It dictates how you engage and what you aim to achieve during your life and your time with Michael. If you do not know WHY you want to feel better or strive for peak performance, neither will Michael.

How long are appointments?The first appointment is about 90 minutes long. Follow up appointments are about 50-60 minutes.

What techniques does he use?Dr. Michael Luan, D.C. is well-versed and certified in Applied Kinesiology (AK), Sacroccipital Techniques (SOT), drop table therapy, flexion distraction, functional stretching, activity-specific training, and Eastern Medicine. He has also worked for many years alongside orthodontists to take a functional approach to mechanics of the body goes through during orthodontic treatment.

What is Dr. Michael Luan, D.C.’s educational background?Michael has a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering, a Master’s in Oriental Medicine, and a Doctor of Chiropractic. He also has a strong background in biomechanics and body communication. He has taught the biomechanics of movement to fitness professionals and yoga instructors for 25 years, group fitness for 25 years and has practiced martial arts for over 40 years.

How often will you need to be seen?This is very dependent on your goals and your “WHY”. Most academic quarters last 6 to 8 weeks, while semesters last 8 to 12 weeks. This period is known as the physiological response, which refers to how your body reacts to positive stress. Therefore, it can take anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks depending on your motivation and the goals you set with Dr. Michael Luan.

Will there be homework?Yes, this is a partnership. There will most certainly be homework to get us to the same place together. The more diligent you are with your assignments, the better the results will be. Most of the time, the homework is simple but requires consistency.

What should I bring to Bio-Functional classes?Please bring water, a towel if you need one, a yoga mat, a roller, and yoga blocks. If you don't have the equipment, you can borrow it from the class. Wear tighter fitting clothing that you feel comfortable moving in. Most importantly, bring an open heart to learn.

What should I expect?The class is equipment-intensive. So there are props that will be use to activate the body’s proper mechanics. There will be certain activities that may be difficult for you as you first start out. These exercises target fundamental weaknesses in the body with the goal of strengthen them. If anything is too challenging, please feel free to ask for a modification.

Can I drop in?Yes, you can, but it's always better to inform us. Ideally, the body responds to positive stress within 8 to 12 weeks, which is known as the physiological response. Therefore, it's best to plan for 12 consecutive weeks for optimal results.
